100 Monkeys Summer Tour Update

July 7, 2010 by Sara

This just in from 100 Monkeys:

The first disc of a two-disc live CD titled “Live and Kickin’ Part 1.”  The songs on the CD were recorded during the first-half of the band’s fan-picked 100 city tour.  The band also announced the next leg of their 2010 tour which will take them through the far-western States and into BC, Canada, and back.  “Live and Kickin’ Part 1” will be available July 19th, 2010, on all major download sources.  Physical albums will be available on July 21st, 2010, at select record stores and on the band’s website at the Official 100 Monkeys Merchandise page.

The newly announced summer tour, which kicks off on July 20th, 2010, and runs through to August 6th, 2010, includes (in order) stops in:  Hermosa Beach, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Vancouver, BC, Canada; Fresno, CA; Reno, NV; Sacramento, CA; and wraps up again in Los Angeles, CA.

100 Monkeys is comprised of Ben Graupner, Lawrence Abrams, Jerad Anderson, Ben Johnson and Jackson Rathbone (who appears in such movies as The Last Airbender, and the Twilight Saga).

The music of 100 Monkeys is impossible to pigeonhole.  Their honest and catchy lyrics combined with the fusion of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, and even borderline Country, creates a truly eclectic sound; one which the band has coined “onomatopoetic, but for the sake of simplicity, we’ll call it funky rock-n-roll.”

Just as unique as the band’s sound, are their live performances, which feature their now patented “Monkey Switcheroo,” in which band members exchange instruments, often during a song.  Additionally, fans attending live shows look forward to the nightly “Improv Song,” where the band takes title suggestions from the audience and turns it into a lyrical masterpiece.

Recently 100 Monkeys was featured in Rolling Stone as one of “Bamboozle 2010?s Five Breakout Bands to Watch.”

Metric Shoots “Eclipse” Video on Location

June 17, 2010 by Sara

According to the Vancouver Sun:

“Following their two recent concerts at the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park, Canadian indie rock band Metric was in North Vancouver on Tuesday, shooting the music video for the theme song for Eclipse, the third instalment [sic]in the Twilight movie series.

The video for Metric’s Eclipse (All Yours) is being shot by director Brantley Gutierrez, 28, a longtime friend of the band who has also worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire and Band of Horses.

The video will depict singer Emily Haines writing the lyrics to the song inside a log cabin in the woods, a reference to both the invitation sent Metric’s way by score composer Howard Shore and to the films’ grey, wet and gloomy locales.”

Muse Doesn’t Care if People Think Being on the Twilight Soundtracks is Uncool

June 5, 2010 by Sara

Muse has appeared on all three of the Twilight soundtracks so far, and they don’t care if people think they’re uncool because of it.

MUSE frontman Matt Bellamy doesn’t care if people think his band’s involvement in the Twilight films is uncool.

The 31-year old singer and guitarist admits to being a massive fan of the vampire movie franchise.

So it’s no wonder Muse have had a song in each of the three movies. Or that they want to continue this run in next year’s Breaking Dawn film and the rumoured second part of the final Stephenie Meyer novel in 2012.

Matt shrugged: “Of course it doesn’t matter we have gained fans because of Twilight and that might seem to be uncool. That doesn’t bother me at all.

“As a band you are represented everywhere. We also have a gig for Guitar Hero, of all things.

“Muse as a video game – that’s something, right?”

In the original Twilight film, the trio’s song Supermassive Black Hole was used, while on New Moon they had I Belong To You (New Moon Remix) on the soundtrack. In upcoming third movie Eclipse, the band have Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever).

Matt added: “It’s great to be involved and it’s so much fun. I like the movies a lot. They’re really good and we hope to continue with this and do another song.”

Being such a big fan it’s surprising Matt hasn’t met Robert Pattinson, who plays vampire Edward, alongside Kristen Stewart as Bella in the franchise.

He said: “I haven’t met him yet, but we have a meeting scheduled. I am looking forward to it already. It’s so nice that Robert and I both come from England. We will understand each other and have common ground.”

The band’s latest Twilight track reached No.11 in the charts last month and was the lead song from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse film soundtrack, which is out on Monday.

EW Review of the Eclipse Soundtrack

May 27, 2010 by Sara

Check out Entertainment Weekly’s review of the Eclipse Soundtrack:

At this point, even the most entrenched haters of Twilight’s vampire-sparkle voodoo concede the soundtracks’ indie-rock bona fides — though they might wish the music came shrouded in a plain brown wrapper.

Like last October’s New Moon collection, Eclipse operates as a sort of alt-party primer: original songs from the genre’s current varsity squad, with a smattering of JV newbies. Pomp-rockers Muse, practically the movies’ musical mascots by now, provide the requisite dose of Queen-meets-Rush grandiosity on ”Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever),” while Jack White side project the Dead Weather revel in swampy blooze-ooze on ”Rolling in on a Burning Tire.” Vampire Weekend, stripped of their habitual Afro-pop swaddling, work the harpsichord-tinged twee of ”Jonathan Low” into a pleasingly woolly tangle, though Australian chanteuse Sia’s ”My Love” does more with much less — her fragile ballad is so ethereal and otherworldly, it should be sung in Elvish. U.K. indie-pop outfit Fanfarlo’s rickety ”Atlas” sounds like Talking Heads on a dirt-road detour; Beck and British songstress Bat for Lashes trade haunting echo-chamber ?vocals on the percussion-heavy duet ”Let’s Get Lost”; and on the heady ”Heavy in Your Arms,” Florence + the Machine make like Siouxsie Sioux leading a tribal marching band into battle. L.A. unknowns Eastern Conference Champions co-opt Radiohead’s dense existential dread, Band of Horses conjure up another beardy folk ramble, and this summer’s palest citizens get a pretty solid ready-made mixtape. B+

Billy Burke: Official “Removed” Music Video

May 23, 2010 by Sara

Billy Burke has been working on his debut album and has finished shooting an impromptu video for “Removed”

“I’ll start this post by saying this… we here at the bb site have been nothing short of BLOWN AWAY by the overwhelming and sincerely adulatory response we’ve received since launching this project. I personally, want to thank each and every one of you who have put forth SO MANY kind thoughts, compliments and good wishes. From conception to fruition and everywhere after, this is now, and will continue to be a collaborative and interactive effort. I’m gonna do my absolute best to keep you current with everything we’re doing and everything that transpires along this dusty ass little road you’re walking with me.

In that spirit, we managed to throw together a little something while on location in Shreveport, Louisiana. Some of you might know that for the past couple months I was there filming a pretty groovy and I think, pretty bad ass (somewhat adult) 3D action road picture (directed by Patrick Lussier) with Nicolas Cage called “DRIVE ANGRY”. On one of the few days that I had free, I had the good fortune of being visited by my close friend and up and coming filmmaker Devon Gummersall. He and I both thought it might be a sweet opportunity to shoot some unplanned, guerilla style footage for an impromptu video for “REMOVED”. My super-cool wife and best pal Pollyanna Rose agreed to play with us and thus, we set forth on a one day into night excursion to see what we could come up with. As you’ll see we started out on the deserted streets of Shreveport and ended up literally, in the closet of the house we were renting.”

Band of Horses Talks Eclipse Soundtrack

May 20, 2010 by Sara

Indie Americana-rockers Band of Horses revealed that they’ll be on the Eclipse soundtrack with a song called “Life on Earth.”

The tune, written by the band’s Bill Reynolds and Creighton Barrett, was an outtake from the band’s upcoming album Infinite Arms (out May 18), said lead singer Ben Bridwell — so, sorry Twihards, don’t go expecting any verses directly referencing the great vampire/werewolf war of 2008.

“I don’t know crap about it [Twilight],” Bridwell admitted to Dose.ca. “But I know it seems nice. They have good taste in music,” he continued, referring to last year’s New Moon Soundtrack. “They had Thom Yorke on it last time, and Grizzly Bear. I mean, they put really really cool soundtracks together.”
