The Wolfpack InStyle

The June issue of InStyle Magazine features an article on the wolves of Eclipse, including Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Julia Jones and Tinsel Korey. Here’s a short excerpt from their interview:

“It feels like family.”

According to Alex Meraz, a 25-year-old who appears in the upcoming third installment of the blockbuster Twilight series, the actors who play the so-called “Wolf Pack”—a group of American Indian shape-shifters—became as close as their characters almost as soon as they arrived on set. “We really rely on each other for support,” he said. “It feels like family.” His co-stars Tinsel Korey, 30, Chaske Spencer, 35, and Julia Jones, 29, agreed: “I felt, kind of instantly, like we had so much in common,” Jones said. Being in an intensely-hyped Twilight flick, she explained, “is a really specific kind of experience. We all feel we’re in the same boat.”

“She’s the caretaker.”

Brooklyn-based Spencer admitted that he auditioned for “pretty much all of the [Quileute] roles” before finally being cast as pack leader Sam. “I looked in the book, and saw how big a part it was, and was like, ‘I’ll take it,’” he said. Korey’s character, Emily, is Sam’s fiancée: A Makah Indian, she’s actually not able to transition into a wolf. “She’s sort of the caretaker,” Korey noted, before adding that she doesn’t feel she missed out as a result of playing the only non-magical member of the pack. “I don’t feel any different from them. The wolf scenes are all CGI anyway!”

“This is you. This is your role.”

The Eclipse casting directors weren’t the first to think Jones, a part-time model and Columbia graduate, was perfect for the part of Leah, the only female wolf. “One of my closest friends read the books before the first movie came out,” she reported, “and she always said, ‘This is going to be you. This is your role.’” Nevertheless, Jones admits to some trepidation about taking on Twilight. “Everybody has an idea of who the character is in their mind, and there’s no way I’m going to be that person for everyone,” she explained. “I just have to hope that the way I bring Leah to life wins people over.”

LA Times Interview With Alex, Chaske, and Julia

May 3, 2010 by Sara

The folks over at the LA Times have a new interview with wolfpack members Alex Meraz , Chaske Spencer, and Julia Jones. Here are some highlights from each person-

Alex Meraz (Paul)

“The fans are going to love this film,” he said. “I didn’t get my chance to touch anybody in ‘New Moon.’ This time I go at it with Emmett [ Kellan Lutz]. I give him a nice bitch slap. But I’m in wolf form, so maybe it’s a big paw slap?

So what of all those topless scenes?

“I have a newfound respect for women. I have to keep my figure. Girls are telling me to take my shirt off. It’s like, ‘Hello! I’m a person, too!’ “

Julia Jones (Leah Clearwater)

Bryce Dallas Howard isn’t the only new face to join the burgeoning ensemble cast. Jones will make her debut to the franchise as Leah Clearwater, the scorned and bitter sole female member of the Wolf Pack.

“She’s really a tough character,” said Jones, 29. “She’s pretty angry about a lot of things that she has every right to be angry about. She’s miserable and lost and trying to cope internally without a lot of help. And she lashes out quite a bit.”

Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley)

Spencer is in Arizona shooting his new film “Shouting Secrets,” about a successful young writer in Los Angeles who is called back to his Native American background to tend to his ailing mother.

With the media blitz already in full effect for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” Spencer said working on something completely different is a way to escape. But there’s no escaping the constant pleas for spoilers from the new flick. And like his character’s quiet, shadow-like wolf form, he only gives a whisper of details.

“This time around, Sam has to put his ego aside to take on this new breed of vampires,” Spencer said. “There’s a lot of new relationships being formed.”

Alex Meraz is featured in a new photo shoot for the April/May issue of Da Man Magazine

Alex shares what he likes to do with his Twilight co-stars. He said, “Our favorite thing to do is go bowling. I didn’t realize how incredible Taylor Lautner is at bowling. He can throw the ball and can whip into a back-flip at the same moment he lets go of the ball. Though it wasn’t a strike, it was still pretty damn impressive.”

Alex Meraz Attends ‘Clash of the Titans’ Premier

Alex Meraz and wife Kim attended the Los Angeles premiere of Clash of the Titans March 31.

These days, 3-D films — whether they’re about Greek mythology, aliens, dragons or anything else — are a big deal to everybody. With that in mind, we asked the accumulated stars which other classic films they’d like to see brought back to the screen in the new 3-D format.

…” ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ ” said Meraz. “The scene with the eyelids, in 3-D? People would probably have seizures watching it. I’d love to see it in 3-D. I’ve got issues, man.”

Twilight Review Checks Out TwiCast at Oceana Naval Air Station

March 24, 2010 by Sara

Hey guys, one of your admins Sara here. I was lucky enough to make it out today to see Alex Meraz, Daniel Cudmore, and Christian Serratos at the NEX on base at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, VA. Nikki Reed and Tyson Houseman were also scheduled to appear at the event but could not make it due to sickness.

The base held a special contest and 300 lucky winners were able to have their pictures taken on a special New Moon stage at the Naval Exchange. The rest of us non-contest winners were able to walk by and take pics of the cast while they were on stage. A few comments I have,

1) Daniel Cudmore is EXTREMELY tall. I knew this of course but in person he’s even TALLER!!

2) Alex is goofy :)

3) All 3 cast members were extremely nice.  They waved at those of us in the line while their pics weren’t being taken.

I think it’s a great thing for the cast to be supportive of the military and I know from hearing from several military moms in the line how much it’s appreciated.
