Chris Weitz WILL NOT Direct Breaking Dawn

Gossip Cop has confirmed that Chris Weitz WILL NOT be directing Breaking Dawn.  Here’s the scoop.

For months on end there has been speculation about “Breaking Dawn,” and who would direct the final chapter of the saga.

Gossip Cop has received official confirmation from Chris Weitz’s rep that he will not be directing the film(s).

Fans had hoped for some time Weitz, who directed “New Moon” (and “The Golden Compass” and “About A Boy” before that), would helm “Breaking Dawn,” but it’s a no go.

Weitz is next slated to direct a personal project about an undocumented Mexican laborer that he himself is partially funding. That film begins next month.

So loved was Weitz there was even a rumor – albeit false –  that stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner had written a joint endorsement, urging Summit Entertainment to lock down the director for the final installment.

Ultimately, it was Weitz’s decision.

As Gossip Cop reported last month, though officially no decision has been made about whether to split “Breaking Dawn” into two films, a well-place source said dividing the final book into two movies is “the direction that it’s going in.”

We’re also told Summit is currently looking at top-tier directors to helm the final “Twilight” film(s).

Michael Sheen Will Return For Breaking Dawn

With The Twilight Saga:Eclipse in post production and soon ready for theaters, now comes not only the pressing questions of when and if The Twilight Saga:Breaking Dawn will be made but who will return?

Apparently, despite the fact that his resume spans two decades, his daughter Lily has only just become a fan of his work. Prior to New Moon, Sheen had done Frost/Nixon, The Queen, The Damned United, the Underworld series, and more, but Lily didn’t quite fit the demographic of viewership for those projects.

“Having spent years and years doing films in which she had no interest in whatsoever, either because she couldn’t watch them because they’re too scary, or she didn’t want to watch them because they’re too boring,” Sheen says, “now to be able to do films that are slam-bang in the middle of what she’s interested in, it’s fantastic for me as a dad.”

It seems that this growing tradition will continue, too, if Sheen reprises his role in Breaking Dawn. As you know, only a portion of the “Volturi” is present in Eclipse, and “Aro” is not one of those who journey to Forks, Washington in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Some worried that with the absence of certain characters in Eclipse some of the actors might move on and not return for Breaking Dawn. Of course, the same was true for Sarah Clarke (“Renee”) from Twilight who was not present in New Moon but did indeed come back for Eclipse.

The Toronto Sun, however, might have just dispelled any concern that Sheen has found better and brighter by reporting the following: “Although his character is absent from this June’s next Twilight movie, Eclipse — “I can sit back and watch all the others have to go through that again,” he says, smiling — he will likely return in the fourth, Breaking Dawn.”

Breaking Dawn to Be 2 Movies

February 11, 2010 by Sara

Thanks to the Twilight Examiner, we FINALLY have some  Breaking Dawn confirmation. The movie is DEFINITELY going to be 2 movies and will start filming in late October! Check out what she says!

Back in November, shortly after The Twilight Saga: New Moon was released to theaters, the conversation was had about whether The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn should be made into one film or two. While there was some dissension in the crowd about the idea of the book being split into two films, there was certainly a crowd in the idea’s corner.

The “yeahs” have it, according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood.

“I have this from several sources, and it’s definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at ‘high-end’ directors,” it is reported. Finke goes on to say that the films would be made “back to back.”

Finke, a reliable source of this sort of information, says that “Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who’s written all the Twilight Saga films) is currently adapting Breaking Dawn.

Of course, you might recall that in that same month, Variety assessed the Breaking Dawn situation, saying that the – to use an Edwardian term – impasse was only a contractual matter, and you also might recall that in November, Summit Entertainment assured fans that the company “look[ed] forward to bringing ‘Breaking Dawn’ to the big screen.” When the issue of whether the film would be one or two made it to the . . .  well . . . breaking point in gossip-style commentary, Stephenie Meyer reached out to say that the issue was no bone of contention between herself and the studio and that her “personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie.”

Lainey Gossip Discusses More ‘Breaking Dawn’ Rumors

Lainey Gossip  has more Breaking Dawn rumors to share with us.  She apparently has the inside scoop on the status of Breaking Dawn being filmed in Vancouver-

Some non-romance related updates for you Twi-Hards, this has to do with shooting location in response to the daily flurry of emails I receive for production information related to the 4th and possibly 5th movie(s).

You’ll recall I was the first to report that due to provincial tax credit drama and competing incentives, Portland became a more viable location. Despite reports elsewhere, as of this weekend, no final decision has been made. Having said that, Vancouver remains Summit’s first choice even though the tax credit situation has yet to be sorted.

My sources tell me exclusively Summit representatives met with the BC government just before Christmas to see if a favourable arrangement could be worked out. That meeting concluded with NO commitments from government officials who explained that they were not prepared to look at any new tax structure until after the Olympics. Summit was hoping to make a decision sooner.

Further, many crew members who worked on Twilight New Moon and Eclipse are now working on the new Fox show Human Target (shot in Vancouver) which enjoyed a solid debut the other night. As of two days ago, those crew members have not been informed of any movement to go back to Twilight. Yet.

There’s been some buzz among certain local special effects firms that a contract is coming, anticipating a June start date. The timing is encouraging for those lobbying for a Twilight return. This would allow for 3 months of prep before principle photography in September. So it looks promising… but there are still many variables at play. Will keep you posted.

Christian Serratos Thinks Drew Barrymore Should Direct Breaking Dawn

January 17, 2010 by Sara

Christian Serratos recently mentioned that she would be interested in seeing Drew Barrymore direct Breaking Dawn.

“There was a lot of talk about Drew directing [Twilight Saga: Eclipse],” Christian, who plays Bella Swan’s bestie Angela Weber, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively at Think PR’s Pre-Sundance Gifting Suite at the W Los Angeles Jan. 13. “I think it would be cool if she directed the next one. I feel like [producers] have been picking really great people, and somehow every director they pick somehow magically matched the book and the movie they were directing.”

Catherine Hardwicke was definitely the right choice to bring out edgy teenage angst in Twilight, while Chris Weitz brought some flash to New Moon. The jury’s still out on Eclipse’s David Slade, though (but pre-buzz says he’s fierce).

Is Drew the right gal for the job? The kooky 34-year-old actress just killed it with her 2009 directorial debut, Whip It! And she’s certainly no stranger to controversial sex scenes (hello, she even starred in a movie called Freddy Got Fingered!) so Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart making sweet, sweet vampire love onscreen would be a breeze.

Stephenie Meyer Responds to Breaking Dawn Rumors

E! Online’s Ted Casablanca stated yesterday in his gossip column The Awful Truth that his “Deep Twi-source” said Stephenie Meyer can’t decide if Breaking Dawn should be in two movies.  Stephenie Meyer responded to gossip on her website:

Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I’ve said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I’ve spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We’re all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there’s no basis to this particular story.

The Twilight Saga stars Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have joined forces to negotiate their respective contracts for Breaking Dawn.

As the trio approaches negotiations for what may be two films based on the Breaking Dawn novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s vampire saga, word has it Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner are joining forces to negotiate as a team.

Though nothing is yet on paper, there is word the huge box-office hauls of both “Twilight” and “New Moon” — and the likely success of “Eclipse,” already shot and due in June — has the three actors likely to be able to demand paychecks well into eight figures for the next two films.

MTV: 5 Scenes People Most Look Forward To in The Twilight Saga

MTV put together 5 scenes that people most look forward in New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

“New Moon” is only 13 short weeks away,“Eclipse” is shooting and just recently, there was an apparently false rumor that we would be getting two “Breaking Dawn” movies. Even though the last “Twilight” film tentatively won’t be coming out until 2011 (or 2012?), it’s hard not to keep our eyes on the last three novels in the “Twilight Saga” as they move toward hitting the big screen. In honor of our excitement over these film adaptations, we have put together a list of our top five favorite scenes we can’t wait to see (in order of importance, of course).

SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t read anything past the very first book in Stephenie Meyer’s series, you probably should skip reading this list, run out to your nearest bookstore, and, uh … get on that!

Will Breaking Dawn Make it to the Big Screen?

In a new article over at E! Online, Mark Malkin reports that he as exclusive information concerning Breaking Dawn straight from a Summit Representative -

While there’s been no official announcement that all systems are go for a fourth Twilight flick, a rep for Summit Entertainment promises that Eclipse will not be the last we see of Robert Pattinson & company…

“The fans should rest assured the we’re working with Stephenie Meyer to bring Breaking Dawn to the big screen,” the rep said. “As in all creative processes, things take time. We want to make sure we get it right.”

And as Twilight fans know, that probably means softening the more hard-core aspects of Breaking Dawn.

“Our fans are in the PG age range, and I don’t feel a big necessity to see violence and to see gore,” Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg told us in late April.

Gore or not, Kristen Stewart probably said it best when we chatted with her in March.

“We all really hope there is going to be a number four,” she said at the time. “I’m pretty confident that the fans aren’t going to…lose interest. The only case that a fourth one wouldn’t be made is if all of a sudden people stopped caring, and I really don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Breaking Dawn to Be a 3 Part Movie?

August 3, 2009 by Sara

COMICON/

There’s a new rumor that the fourth book of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn will be split into three films:

Summit Entertainment has acquired the rights from Stephenie Meyer to film and distribute Breaking Dawn, the fourth novel in her series. Breaking Dawn is in the early pre-production stages. There will likely be quite a bit of tweaking to the novel due to the explicit sex and birth scenes to avoid an R rating.

Sources say that Breaking Dawn will be filmed and released in a new trilogy – “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I”, “Part II” and “Part III”. This has not been confirmed officially by Summit, however author Stephenie Meyer has stated “it would have to be made into multiple movies because it’s hard to imagine it fitting into ninety minutes”.

David Slade is directing Eclipse, but it is unknown if he will also direct any of the Breaking Dawn films. “Breaking Dawn: Part I” should start shooting in early 2010, with a release scheduled for 2011.

Consider this all wilid hearsay until further notice–it comes from the sometimes-accurate, sometimes-not-so-accurate Acting411.

Breaking Dawn Movie to Remain True to Book

According to Ted Casablanca at E!, Breaking Dawn will stay true to its roots instead of being watered down for the big screen.

Breaking Dawn features scenes that are quite violent and overtly sexual, and it was feared that the script would gloss over important elements that may not be appropriate for a younger audience. Ted cites producers that say it will be “very, very sexual, …almost too hot for Twilight’s fanbase”.

According to Ashley Greene, Breaking Dawn will be filming soon after Eclipse

“We’re going to start right after Eclipse,” says Ash.

So will we see any repeat directors for the fourth film?

“I don’t think so,” says Ms. Greene. “[Eclipse director] David [Slade] and [New Moon director] Chris [Weitz] will both be busy in postproduction, and Catherine [Hardwicke] will be doing Hamlet.”

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Will the Movie Beat the Book?

Reelzchannel.com has an interesting article on Breaking Dawn movie vs book.

After Robert Pattinson’s announcement that Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s ridiculously popular Twilight Saga, will hit the big screen, we got to thinking: Will it make a good movie? And more important, will it turn out better than the book?

Breaking Dawn is very different from the first three novels in the series (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse) and saw numerous mixed reviews during its release week. The millions-strong fan base was divided — everyone either loved it or hated it.

We’ve come up with 10 ways the movie could either rake in major box-office bucks or epically fail in a way not seen since Speed Racer dropped off the face of the planet. Even Pattinson might not be enough to save this one.
