MTV: Melissa Rosenberg Talks Breaking Dawn

Melissa Rosenberg talked to MTV about the challenge of getting all of the new vampires into Breaking Dawn and other issues.

“”I ask people to really weigh in with what are their favorite scenes in the books, what’s important to them,” Rosenberg said. “And there generally seems to be a consensus about one scene or another. It’s really helpful for me and I’ll interact with them sometimes.”

She added that the fan interaction has helped her to squash any out-of-control Internet-generated rumors about her “Dawn” scripts. “At one point, [the fans] were upset because they had gotten the impression that I was choosing not to put the birthing scene in the script, and I was able to go online and say, ‘I don’t know where that idea came from, but of course the birthing scene is going to be in.’ ” Another Net-generated rumor, according to Rosenberg, is that she won’t include the Book of Jacob in the final film. “I don’t know where that idea came from, but that is not true,” she confirmed. “We are going to see Jacob’s perspective equally, so don’t worry.”

Lee Pace To Play Garrett in “Breaking Dawn”?

According to the folks over at E! Online, Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) is up for the role of Garrett in Breaking Dawn.

Pace, perhaps best known from the before-its-time show Pushing Daisies, is up for the role of Garrett, a friend of Edward’s (that would be Robert Pattinson, just in case you forgot).

The character is described in the script as a tall, nomadic vampire with sandy hair that he keeps tied back with a leather thong. Garrett is also penned as being down-to-earth, laid-back, rugged and having a lightness and element of humor about him.

“Lee is the top person in the running to play Garrett in Breaking Dawn,” a source tells E! News.

As we all know, Bill Condon is directing both Breaking Dawn films, and according to our insider, is “hoping to take it in a more artsy direction.”

PopSugar Interviews Melissa Rosenberg

Check out this new interview with Melissa Rosenberg from Pop Sugar regarding her vision for Breaking Dawn.

PopSugar: How did you feel about the decision to split Breaking Dawn into two movies?
Melissa Rosenberg: Relief, actually, because it was going to be quite a challenge to condense such a large book into one movie. That’s always the challenge with all of these and, more so, Breaking Dawn. Having a little more room to breathe is nice . . . on the other hand, there’s also the challenge of making sure there’s enough to fill two movies.

PS: We’ve heard there are some scenes you want to avoid showing on screen in Breaking Dawn. For example, Bella giving birth. Can you tell us why?
MR: That was a misquote. The childbirth — all the scenes, I feel — should be on screen. I think perhaps what I was referring to was, would we actually see Edward’s teeth through the placenta? I don’t think so. I don’t think we need to see that, and if someone needs to see that, I think they should take a look at that. [Laughs.] I believe it will be implied, but I don’t think we’ll see teeth in the placenta.

To read the rest of the interview about her craziest fan experience, her favorite scenes to write, and more, just read more.

PS: What responsibility do you feel toward the fans? Are they on your mind during the writing process?
MR: The responsibility I feel to the fans? Well, there’s one: making them happy, of course. I want people to enjoy the movie and not feel that I killed their favorite novel! But what I’ve realized is, you can’t satisfy all the people. But the real weight that I feel is a very heavy responsibility, knowing that a lot of women and young girls are seeing this, and watching to make sure that what’s portrayed in the film is that Bella’s a strong female role model. That the messages they’re getting are positive ones.

PS: What’s the craziest or most surprising fan reaction you’ve experienced?
MR: You can’t call it crazy, but crazy wonderful. I just came back from Paris. I was there [for a press junket] with some of the actors: Daniel Cudmore, Edi Gathegi, Michael Welch, and Alex Meraz. At the end, there was this closing ceremony and we were told there was a surprise for us, and they led us out on the stage . . . and the entire audience was sort of standing in this darkened theater, almost as if in prayer. It was very odd. And then after a moment, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” starts up, and they break into a dance they’ve been choreographing for three days. This wonderful, very unified dance, and it was amazing. We were stunned. A thousand pairs of hands all raised to the beat at the same time — it’s a powerful experience . . . I wondered, could that have happened anywhere else but in France? Would American audiences have been too cool?

PS: How involved is Stephenie Meyer in the writing process and what is your relationship with her like?
MR: Stephenie is very involved. My relationship with her has only gotten better with every movie. When I met her and began to engage, I had no reason to be protective. I found her to be extremely collaborative and a tremendous resource. So I began to engage her more and that happened more on New Moon and even more in Eclipse . . . She weighs in on every draft of the outline, every draft of the script. She’s on set. She’s very involved.

PS: What is one of your favorite scenes from the books or films? Is there one you’ve especially enjoyed writing or look forward to writing?
MR: There are a number. I think seeing Bella as a vampire and her adjusting to her powers and embracing them, those are all really fun scenes to write. Particularly when you picture Kristen Stewart playing her, and the way she’s embodied Bella as a sort of awkward, fidgety persona. When she turns into a vampire, all of that goes away.

Collider Interview With Wyck Godfrey About Breaking Dawn Filming Locations

TWILIGHT Producer Wyck Godfrey TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE, BREAKING DAWNThe most popular videos are a click away

Collider has a new interview with Twilight Saga producer Wyck Godfrey, where he reveals they will definitely be shooting part of the movie in Louisiana alongside the previous Vancouver set locations. He says the reason for this is partially financially motivated with tax credits along with a strong crew base in the area, and from the interview it sounds like there may be a substantial portion filmed in Louisiana.

Godfrey also addresses the question of whether Breaking Dawn will be shot in 3-D, and he says it is under serious consideration. He notes they talked about it for Eclipse, but decided early on not to go that route. He also notes that he doesn’t want to do a post-production conversion like Clash of the Titans if it’s done in 3D, but wants to film it with the proper equipment in “real” 3-D as was done with Avatar and only if director Bill Condon feels it suits the material.

New Interview With Breaking Dawn Cast

Cinematical.com has a new interview with Breaking Dawn cast members Kristen, Rob, Taylor, and Peter!

In Breaking Dawn, what do you think Edward’s evolution will be?

Pattinson: I haven’t read it yet! I mean, it’s weird – I’m starting it a month after this job and it’s something I’m quite glad I haven’t read it yet. I didn’t intend to not read it until now, it’s quite exciting. I have no idea, I just heard brief rumors about what happens in the story but I don’t really know what happens at all

Your current haircut is shorter than Edward’s. How are you going to go about getting your long hair back for Breaking Dawn?

Pattinson: I’m thinking maybe Edward got a haircut – it might be easier. I didn’t even think about that when I got it cut, that is a bit silly. Vampires can cut their hair though, so I like the idea of Edward having a shaved head in the last one. That [would be] pretty cool.

Since Breaking Dawn will be two movies, do you if one movie will be from your perspective and one will be from Rob’s?

Lautner: I do know it will be two, which I am extremely excited about. It is going to be great. Bill Condon is doing both. I it going to be awesome and I can’t wait to work with him.

Do you have a clause in your contract saying you have to keep your shirt on?

Lautner: No clause (laughs). Whatever the book says is most likely what we are going to do.

How long have you known that Breaking Dawn was going to be two films, and how long will the shoot be?

Stewart: The shoot is going to be something like six months. We start in October. I think we’re not going to be finished until maybe March or something, maybe February. I clearly don’t really look at the schedule. I had to hold onto this forever. They’ve been talking about it for a really long time and we all definitely knew that it was going to be two movies forever now. It’s been really hard not to say that. We’re all really stoked on that.

What designer would love to see design Bella’s wedding dress and if you could dream it up what would it look like?

Stewart: Well, Stephenie [Meyer] is absolutely in charge of that. I’m sure she has really specific ideas. I haven’t really thought about it. But I feel like Bella would definitely want something like really classic and really simple, too but beautiful. I have no idea in terms of designers.

Would it be white?

Stewart: Yeah, or like creamy, but definitely classic. She doesn’t want to get married and because it means so much to Edward and because he has such different sensibilities and such different values, I think because she’s going to go ahead and go through with it she’s going to give him everything. I think it’s going to be like a really beautiful and monumental wedding because he wants that. Usually it’s the opposite. Usually the girl wants it. It’s cute.

What are you most looking forward to doing when you start shooting Breaking Dawn?

Facinelli: I’m looking forward to working with Bill Condon. He’s phenomenal. I’m looking forward to hearing what his thoughts are on the series and the movie. It’s cool because all these different directors have these different interpretations. You don’t get complacent and sit back and go, “Ok. I know these characters.” They’re always asking you different questions and getting you to think deeper.

Breaking Dawn to Film in Louisiana?

May 18, 2010 by Sara

Is Breaking Dawn going to be shooting down in Louisiana? Local state and industry sources say yes.    According to NOLA.com:

The second, more telling, development comes in the form of incorporation papers filed last week with the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office by an agent for Summit and establishing a new corporate entity called “TSBD LOUISIANA, L.L.C.” – which would seem to stand for “Twilight: Saga Breaking Dawn.”

Of course, filing incorporation papers is a long way from booking soundstages and crewing up — but as early signs go, it’s a good one that there might be truth to these rumors.

This could make sense for the Isle Esme scenes and whatnot….. we’ll just have to keep wondering until an official statement comes out!

5 Scenes That MUST Be in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

May 6, 2010 by Sara

ReelzChannel has a great new article looking at the top five scenes from Breaking Dawn that they feel need to be in the film. Check them out below:

SPOILER ALERT!!

Edward & Bella’s Wedding

The couple’s long-awaited nuptials happen quite early on in the book, much to the delight of fans wondering will-they-or-won’t-they couple. It’s a family affair that almost runs smoothly, no thanks to Jacob almost wolfing out when he learns that Bella plans to become a vampire. It’s a testosterone-fueled scene, with the boys once again facing off, much to Bella’s dismay (we bet she’s secretly happy, really — who wouldn’t want Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner fighting over her?!). The wedding, itself, has its moments, with the high point being the vows and Edward removing Bella’s borrowed garter with his teeth. If that doesn’t make it into the movie, Melissa Rosenberg will have a lot to answer for.

The Isle Esme Honeymoon

Calm down, ladies — we’re almost positive this whole chapter will make it into the movie. It’s the perfect opportunity to feature a topless Robert Pattinson during his impromptu celebratory skinny-dip, and it’s also the first time Edward and Bella have sex. That said, it’s not nice sex — it’s Edward at his headboard-breaking, pillow-biting best, with Bella getting a little bruising during this most monumental of moments (not to mention extremely pregnant), which might not make it into the final cut of a PG-13 movie. We’re just sayin’.

Breaking Dawn Gets a Release Date!

May 5, 2010 by Sara

The  L.A. Times has confirmed that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be released in the U.S. on November 18, 2011.

“The surprising news here is that the movie, which will likely shoot in the fall, won’t be accelerated to come out next summer,” the source reports.

While no official confirmation as to whether Breaking Dawn would be one film or two has yet to surface, the L.A. Times does have an opinion on the matter.

It’s hard to know what’s motivating the 17-month lag. Talent schedules would seem to be a factor, but almost as likely, especially given the fifth-movie talk, is that the fourth and fifth films would need to be shot back-to-back — which, depending on how it’s shot and edited, could  require more time.

It’s Official! Bill Condon To Direct Breaking Dawn

April 28, 2010 by Sara

Thanks to the official Twilight twitter we have learned that it’s FINALLY official that Bill Condon will be directing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Here’s what the Examiner has to say:

After countless months of speculation regarding who would helm The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Summit Entertainment has just announced that Bill Condon (Oscar-winning director of Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and Gods And Monsters) will indeed be the director.

Erik Feig, President of Production and Acquisitions for Summit Entertainment, stated the following about the selection of Condon: “Bringing Stephenie Meyer’s BREAKING DAWN to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity.”

Stephenie Meyer, too, positively weighed in on the choice: “I’m so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he’s going to be a great fit, and I’m excited to see what he does with the material.”

Finally, Bill Condon himself spoke up about being picked to helm the fourth film in the Twilight series. “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,” he said.

The present status of the film is that Melissa Rosenberg is currently penning the screenplay, and Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, and Stephenie Meyer are set as producers for the picture. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner are all set to reprise their center-stage roles for the film.

Ashley Greene talked with  MTV about the potential directors for Breaking Dawn, mainly Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, and Bill Condon.

Movie TrailersMovies Blog

Gus Van Sant: “I became excited about Gus Van Sant not too long ago, because I was reading a script that Bryce Dallas Howard was actually producing [with him called 'Restless']; she was talking to me a little bit about him and the film as a whole,” Ashley said of the avant-garde filmmaker behind everything from blockbusters (“Good Will Hunting”) to bizarre indie flicks (“My Own Private Idaho”). “I think Gus Van Sant would be pretty amazing.”

Sofia Coppola: “In ['Breaking Dawn'] in particular, there’s this whole thing about Bella finally just getting to be with Edward and her going through pregnancy and her having a child, and it’s a lot of stuff from a female point of view,” explained Greene, saying that the “Lost in Translation” filmmaker could inject a welcome return to feminism unseen since Hardwicke left the franchise. “I definitely think that would be kind of cool.”

Bill Condon: “I haven’t seen ['Gods and Monsters'] … I actually haven’t seen ‘Dreamgirls’ either,” Greene sheepishly admitted of Condon’s 1998 and 2006 Oscar-winning masterpieces, joking nonetheless that if he wanted to add some song-and-dance numbers to “Breaking Dawn,” she wouldn’t complain. “I wouldn’t mind; I think if he were to direct, I’d be right there in his ear going, ‘So you know, I used to dance and I can sing.’ I definitely wouldn’t mind doing a musical. It’s one of the things I definitely plan on doing [in my film career].”
