Anna Kendrick had signed on to star in a film called I’m with Cancer, which also stars James McAvoy and Seth Rogan.  It was just announced that Summit Entertainment will be distributing the film, and fellow Twilight Saga actress Bryce Dallas Howard will also be joining the cast.  The film is set to begin filming this month in Vancouver, BC.

Summit Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to an untitled comedy starring Seth Rogen and James McAvoy from Mandate Pictures, Summit announced on Tuesday. Formerly called “I’m With Cancer,” the movie also stars Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Jonathan Levine (”The Wackness”) will direct a script penned by Will Reiser.

No word on the plot, although it’s supposed to be a comedy in the “bittersweet” vein — one the company says deals with “friendship, love, and survival.”

“It’s rare to find a script that has you laughing and crying in equal measure, or a cast and director as perfectly suited to get the tone of this unique and moving film as perfectly right,” Erik Feig, Summit’s president of production, said in a statement.

The project will be produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Reiser is executive producing along with Mandate Pictures’ president Nathan Kahane.

Filming will begin principal photography this month in Vancouver.

International sales will be handled by Lionsgate at the European Film Market in Berlin, which starts Thursday.

Bryce Dallas Howard to Star in ‘Hereafter’

December 30, 2009 by Sara

Empire reports that Bryce Dallas Howard has joined the cast of the upcoming Clint Eastwood flick Hereafter, which will also star Matt Damon.

She’s just finished playing a member of the undead – controversially stepping in as Victoria in Twilight: Eclipse – but now Bryce Dallas Howard will tackle death with Clint Eastwood.

The actress has signed on to Dirty Harry’s latest directing job, which will see him reunite with Invictus’ Matt Damon for Hereafter, which sees three people (a regular American working man, a French journalist and a London school boy) touched by the reaper in different ways.

Eastwood is already busy shooting (how else will he finish three more films before most other directors have tackled one?) and the movie will take in locations across Paris, London, Hawaii and San Francisco before it’s finished.

Planned for a December 2010 release, we’re betting – given Clint’s recent run – that it’ll end up another awards contender…

MTV Interview With Bryce Dallas Howard on Potraying Victoria

December 19, 2009 by Sara

MTV’s Larry Carroll has a new interview with Bryce Dallas Howard. In the interview they discuss the character Victoria, and how Bryce aimed to stay true to Rachelle LeFevre’s vision of Victoria -

Movie TrailersMovies Blog

MTV: It’s no secret that you entered the franchise under less-than-ideal circumstances. What kinds of things did the other actors say and do in those early days?

Bryce Dallas Howard: What’s so great about that group of people is that they feel so genuinely blessed by this experience. Just by the response of the fans. But they’ve remained so grounded, and their friendships are genuine. I just felt really, really fortunate to get to meet all these wonderful people.

MTV: Tell us about your take on Victoria, as opposed to Rachelle’s. What will be different? What will stay the same?

Howard: Victoria is a wonderful character. … It’s awfully juicy to play a villain. To play someone that’s just evil; Victoria is evil. And I think with “Eclipse,” it ends with quite a huge battle, a big spectacle, and it’s very scary. It’s a very, very scary book and very terrifying set of circumstances, and I think the Cullens are in jeopardy in a way that they never really have been before. It was a really, really exciting world to be a part of, because it was so scary and the stakes were so high.

MTV: Would you say you studied Rachelle’s performance, to factor it into your own?

Howard: Well, I have seen “Twilight” innumerable times, innumerable. And yes, of course, I saw “New Moon” before doing “Eclipse,” because the continuity of the character is critical, and Rachelle had done a really exquisite job creating Victoria. It was really important to base all of my work on that. She set a very high bar, and I wanted to reach for that.

MTV: In your mind, what were the critical elements of Victoria that needed to be maintained from the book to the script to Rachelle to yourself?

Howard: Well, the visual continuity of the character Victoria is really important, because such a distinctive character had been created, one that the fans and audience really connected to. She’s described perfectly in the book. And that’s really important to everybody, that there’s an authenticity to bringing these characters to life that’s not really an interpretation, just a true representation of what’s been written on the page.

Bryce Dallas Howard Talks Eclipse Fight

Bryce Dallas Howard, has slipped comfortably into the role of Victoria.  Howard spoke with MTV about the fight scene in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

“There’s quite an extraordinary finale,” Howard told MTV News of the scene that took weeks of intense fight training to prepare for. “That was very fun to do.”

Howard was careful not to reveal any details about the pivotal scene, but she did concede that the battle will likely trump the ballet-studio fight in “Twilight” and the Volturi rumble in “New Moon.”

“The producers were saying it’s the biggest spectacle filmed thus far in this franchise,” she said. “There’s a newborn army that’s been raised for battle. It’s a true battle scene.”

All the actors in Eclipse have basically said the same thing, that the battle scene is totally epic.  I cannot wait for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, it will be here before we know it.  The film is due in theaters, June 30th 2010.

Bryce Dallas Howard in Saturday Night Magazine

BDH2

The gorgeous Bryce Dallas Howard is featured in the Jan 2010 issue of Saturday Night Magazine where she talks about taking on the role of Victoria in Eclipse.

SNMag: What has it been like joining the cast of Twilight?
BDH: It’s a really extraordinary series and obviously the franchise really reflects what Stephenie Meyer has created with a lot of integrity. She’s so involved with the movies and it is really wonderful. It’s really an incredible storytelling moment. And people are really connecting with and responding to that. So I read the books and I just did my best for the character Victoria. I just wanted to do my best not to interfere with the books.

SNMag: Did you feel pressure coming into this, with the character already being established?
BDH: Yes, of course I did. Rachelle [Lefevre] did an extraordinary job at creating Victoria and part of the joy of a franchise like this is getting to see not only the characters grow but the actors continuing to grow with the characters. That’s a lot of the joy in the Harry Potter series. Every time I see one of those movies it’s so exciting to see them because they’re all getting a little bit older and different things are happening to them. It’s like watching a TV show. You start to connect with the actors really deeply. It was really unfortunate for everybody that Rachelle left. I did feel, I don’t know if I should say a pressure, but an enormous responsibility because the fans felt really strongly about the role of Victoria and they felt a deep connection to Rachelle, which they should because she is also beautiful and talented. I really did do my best and I hope that whatever work I did can somehow honor what had been created before and what was created by Stephenie. I felt really grateful to this because Rachelle and I have connected. She’s an amazing woman and has been enormously and overwhelmingly helpful.

SNMag: What was the shooting like for you? Did you have an opportunity to hang out with the cast and bond with them?
BDH: Oh, yes, I mean they’re a very tight-knit group of people who are just wonderful. They’re incredibly authentic and none of them are getting swept up by the mania of this. They just care about each other and are protective of each other. They are just a great group of friends. I feel like all of these people would have been friends regardless. They all bonded through this amazing moment that’s happening in their lives.

Bryce Dallas Howard sat down with MTV to talk about joining the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Movie TrailersMovies Blog

“It was actually a really unfortunate circumstance where the actress who everyone really cared deeply about, who has done an amazing job in this role, was unavailable,” Howard said, explaining her last-minute casting. “They were looking for someone to fill that slot. It was right before production actually happened, so of course there was intimidation there and feeling a huge responsibility to do my best.”

“They love these books — all these actors,” Howard continued. “They’re fans themselves. It was a great energy on set — that people are so passionate about bringing these characters to life.”

In the ensuing days, both Lefevre and Summit Entertainment released separate statements detailing their sides of the story. But despite the drama behind the scenes, Howard insists the cast was nothing but welcoming.

“[They] were really lovely,” Howard said. “And yes, it’s an incredible group of people. I have so much respect for them. There’s so much frenzy surrounding them, and they’ve remained grounded, and their friendships are so genuine. I felt very lucky to work with such a good group of people.

Kristen Stewart Talks With MTV Radio

Kristen Stewart recently spoke with MTV radio . Check out what she had to say:

“Chris did a very different thing that I’ve never had a director do,” the 19-year-old explained. “He put together a syllabus of what we were supposed to achieve and how he was going to make it easier for everyone — sort of an introduction to how he likes to work. It not only introduced the idea of collaboration but said, ‘Please, everyone, love it and be invested and work hard.’ It was very encouraging. It had technical aspects of [the shoot] — how he was so sorry that so much of the movie was going to be CGI stuff that we would have to react to — but that he was going to always make us aware of what we were acting with and never leave us high and dry like a lot of effects movies [do], because you don’t know what you’re reacting to. It was a full rundown of how he planned on making the movie. Most directors are like, ‘Have you put together notes for our meeting?’ and it’s like, ‘No. That’s your job.’ ”

“It was really good [working with her],” Kristen said. “Bryce is scary. She is really oddly sweet as well, so it’s weird to see her switch back and forth. Victoria, for Bella, is an ever-present fear — even when Victoria isn’t around, she is scared that she is coming back. Bryce is such a good actress, and it was easy to be scared of her.”

“I’ve gotten more comfortable with it,” Kristen said of the media attention. “And the whole rumor/tabloid stuff, it’s so obviously false to me. Even before I became a part of it, once I was sort of the star of that, it’s like a show; it’s like a ridiculous show. With false realism, like a soap opera that seems real, but you’re not quite sure. It doesn’t bother me; I don’t take it personally.”

MTV – Introduction to the New Ladies of The Twilight Saga Movies

August 27, 2009 by Sara

mtv-logo

MTV has a great post that introduces us to the new ladies of The Twilight Saga. Here are the intros to each of the new female cast members.

Actor: Catalina Sandino Moreno

Character: Maria

The Lowdown: Fan-favorite Jackson Rathbone has already expressed excitement over the fact that his role as Jasper Hale will be expanded greatly for the third “Twilight” film. Oscar-nominee Moreno may no longer be “Full of Grace,” but will now play a very different Maria. Described in Stephenie Meyer’s pages as being petite with a soft voice, Maria is the woman who turned Jasper into a bloodthirsty immortal when he was 20 years old in 1863. Her inclusion will play a major role in the young vampire threat that emerges throughout “Eclipse” and the likely-to-film-someday “Breaking Dawn.”

Actor: Julia Jones

Character: Leah Clearwater

The Lowdown: The only female werewolf in the history of the Quileute tribe, the part of Leah was targeted soon after the success of the “Twilight” movie as a star-making role for a young actress — and sure enough, names like Vanessa Hudgens, Q’Orianka Kilcher and Brenda Song were rumored for months. Instead, director David Slade chose 28-year-old relative newcomer Jones (”Hell Ride”) — a former model for the Gap, Esprit, L’Oreal and other national brands. We can look forward to seeing her transform in “New Moon” alongside her brother Seth (BooBoo Stewart), and a problematic love triangle leaves her bitter and eager to tease Jacob about his own love triangle.

Actor: Bryce Dallas Howard

Character: Victoria

The Lowdown: Technically, she isn’t a new character — in fact, the vampire Victoria is one of the most pivotal figures in the movie franchise. But in case you’ve been trapped in a cave for the last few months, sealed off from all mankind, we thought we’d mention that Bryce Dallas Howard replaced Rachelle Lefevre in “Eclipse” after the actress was unceremoniously dismissed from the franchise — a move that spurned a headline or two. The Golden Globe nominee certainly has not only the appropriate hair color, but the acting chops to go along with it — and has already begun to bond with her castmates. But without a doubt, all eyes will be on Bryce to see if she can fill Rachelle’s sizable shoes.

Actor: Tinsel Korey

Character: Emily

The Lowdown: Named after Stephenie Meyer’s sister, Emily is Leah Clearwater’s second cousin and the aunt to Claire — a character who will emerge mainly in “Breaking Dawn.” Korey, an actress best known for the Canadian TV crime drama “Rabbit Fall,” is expected to dress down her beauty with prominent scars in “Eclipse.” The markings on Emily’s face and arm serve as constant reminders of the short temper belonging to Sam Uley (Chaske Spencer), as well as the guilt he feels for harming his fiancée.

Actor: Jodelle Ferland

Character: Bree

The Lowdown: Those who expect “30 Days of Night” filmmaker Slade to bring the blood for his “Twilight” adventure know that a good amount of it could possibly revolve around the violent newborn vampire Victoria creates in an attempt to avenge the death of James (Cam Gigandet) in the first flick. The 14-year-old Ferland appeared with Kristen Stewart previously in the 2007 horror flick “The Messengers,” and has been acting since she was 5 years old. Soon fans can look forward to her shrill voice, special link with Carlisle and eventual fall-out with Jane (Dakota Fanning) and the Volturi.

Bryce Dallas Howard’s Potential New Project

August 25, 2009 by Sara

bryce-dallas-howard-234x300

Here’s some information on a new project from Bryce Dallas Howard:

Gus van Sant, who last directed Sean Penn to an Oscar in “Milk,” is in negotiations to shoot a project shepherded by new “Twilight” actress Bryce Howard.

The logline for “Restless” is being kept under wraps, though the Columbia Pictures project described as contemporary and distinctive take on young love.

Howard will produce with her father Ron Howard and his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer. She attended New York University with the film’s rookie scribe Jason Lew and it was there that he first wrote the story as a play. Howard, who had acted in plays with Lew, got a peek at the story and encouraged him to write it as a screenplay.

After several drafts and a “gestation period,” she brought it to her father who wanted to develop it for Imagine. Lew kept on working on the screenplay with Imagine executives, who ultimately showed it to Van Sant. The director previously partnered with Imagine on the “Psycho” remake.

Howard (”The Village”) recently replaced Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria in the third installment of the “Twilight” franchise, which will be released in June.
