Charlie Bewley Starring in’Ecstacy’

January 6, 2010 by Sara

Charlie Bewley (aka Demetri) will be staring in a new film entitled Ecstasy.

Here is the plot via the Official Ecstasy Facebook account -

ECSTASY is a contemporary and relevant film about how drugs transcend all borders of society and affect every facet of our lives. But when it leaves it takes away your soul.

A new party drug arrives on the rave scene in a college town and is consumed openly by young people. It’s irresistible – making you feel invincible, beautiful, intelligent and loved.

This haunting psychological thriller centers around a mother’s struggle to save her daughters from going down the same dark path she once took, a handsome jock’s (Charlie Bewley, from Twilight: New Moon) misplaced faith in God stemming from the temptations that surrounds him, and three college girls’ horrific experience with their drug-induced guilt, fears and demons.

Glamour UK Interview With Charlie Bewley

Charlie Bewley, who plays Demetri in New Moon, recently talked with Glamour UK. Check out an excerpt below:

Were you a Twilight fan before you were cast in New Moon?
I wasn’t a Twilight fan. I just couldn’t get over that whole alpha male-ism that there might be a better-looking person out there in the world but me. (LAUGHS)

What was it about the part of Demetri that part that attracted you?
With Demetri, I knew that I could bring something to this character that no one else could; a certain energy and flare and charisma that I could really bring to him and make my own.

How was it coming into the cast for the second movie as an outsider?
A lot of people misquoted me when I said that it was difficult to come into a group of actors like that and they thought that the whole Hollywood cliché was the problem, but what it is is that with Twilight you have a phenomenon that’s only a year old and everyone has gone through it together; the staple six or eight characters in this film have gone through this massive amount of attention from the world and they have had to bond; they’ve had no choice, whether they liked each other from the start or not. And for people to come onto the set on such a high profile film and expect to just walk in and start high-fiving, that’s just not logical and human nature, and it does take two or three days for people to adjust to someone’s personality and sense of humour, etc.

Have any of the other cast-mates given you advice on how to deal with the hype, because Robert Pattinson especially has a lot to deal with?
I think Rob is dealing with it very, very well. I mean given the fact that he is the most photographed person in the world and that he can’t leave his front door. I mean when I speak to Rob, he doesn’t seem like he’s changed too much from when I first met him or from what I’ve seen of him in interviews before that. He’s still a very grounded person, someone who massively enjoys what he’s doing and an avid musician so I think he’s having a fantastic time. Did he give me advice? Not really. I think everyone deals with it in their own way.

Rome Film Festival Updates

Previously unseen New Moon footage premiered at the Rome Film Festival earlier today. Here is a description of the scenes they showed.

SPOILER ALERT!

From Rome

- They showed 3 unseens. Edward leaving Bella, from when he was waiting for her at home, untile he leaves, then a featurette of Bella running toward Edward and hugging him in Montepulciano, in the Volterra scene and another featurette showing the Volturi hall, without the CGI decorations

Edward leaves Bella:

Edward is waiting for Bella at her house, because they need to talk. He tells her he needs to leave Forks because Carlisle is raising suspicions in town. At first Bella is convinced that Edward wants to take her with him, but then starts realizing that’s not the case. She asks Edward: “What do you mean by “us”?”. He responds: “Only my family.” Bella gets upset. Tells Edward again that the incident with Jasper was nothing, and Edward answers that is exactly the problem: “Nothing compared to what could have happened.”He tells her she doesn’t belong in his world. Bella answers “Well, that changes many things.” That is when Edward says line we’ve seen in the trailer “This is the last time you’ll see me.” Bella tries to convince him to stay, that she’s not afraid to lose her soul, but Edward doesn’t give in. The scene ends with Edward leaving. Screen then goes to black and we see Bella fall to the ground.

New Moon Volturi in Australia

Cameron Bright, Charlie Bewley, and Christopher Heyerdahl (who play Alec, Demitri, and Marcus) were at a convention in Australia this weekend and had time for an interview with Movie Mazzupial.

“Christopher: It was great fun, that’s the wonderful thing about being inside a studio. Certainly the majority of the Volturi scenes for New Moon were done inside a studio and in there you enter a cloistered, inner-sanctum where we’re protected on all sides. So all the pandemonium that happens outside bounces off this protective wall of the studio, so it was really easy to just do the work. But as soon as we left the studio and went outside to restaurants or hotels, what have you, the pandemonium was definitely there.

MM: What were some of the difficulties playing the role? I mean, all of your characters are essentially pretty evil, was that too hard to get into?

Charlie: I don’t know, it was fairly hard. The biggest trouble I found with my character was just his complete desire to want to let it rip, you know? You are bestowed with these powers of speed and strength and, you know, Demetri has a talent for tracking as well. I found I had to contain myself during the scenes and not just completely defy the script, whip around and go round ripping people’s heads off.

Christopher: (Laughs) I had no idea that was going on in your head, that’s amazing. You scare me now (laughs).”

Hollywood.com Interview Charlie Bewley

Holloywood.com was able to go in depth with Charlie Bewley about his past and his future hopes:

“Charlie Bewley won’t say how old he is. New Moon, the second installment of the culturally permeating Twilight Saga series.”

He also won’t elaborate on the details of his seemingly scandal-heavy past, which he alludes to frequently, nebulously describing it as “erratic, risky, bread-line. High highs, low lows.” In passing, he mentions turbulent romances and family dramas, and says he doesn’t really drink anymore, but keeps mum on the reasons why. He is decidedly mysterious.

“I have to be,” Bewley says.

What’s known is that Bewley is a British expat who worked several snow seasons in ski mecca Whistler after immigrating to Canada several years ago. For a time, he supported himself by driving a cab (“I had the most money out of all my friends”) and later moved to Vancouver, a two-ish-hour drive from Whistler, to pursue his acting career. The choice necessitated another move to Los Angeles in September of this year.

This is, of course, because Bewley plays the Volturi vampire Demetri in the upcoming New Moon, the second installment of the culturally permeating Twilight Saga series.”

Volturi Almost Done Shooting in Montepulciano

According to his Twitter, Charlie Bewley has finished shooting his part in New Moon. This means Dakota Fanning and Daniel Cudmore can’t be far behind.

On today’s agenda is the Bella dashes across the plaza with 1,500 extras in red cloaks scene. Apparently the weather in Italy is just as unpredictable as in the Pacific Northwest as it was uncharacteristically cloudy this morning.

There are masses of people who have flocked to Montepulciano from all over the world.  Barricades are up for the crowds to stand behind. Yesterday the crowds could see the walk through and rehearsal in the main piazza, but today all has been blocked off.
