New Moon Rakes in $142.8 Million in the Opening Weekend

The weekend totals are in and both Gossip Cop and Nikki Finke (of Deadline Hollywood Daily) are reporting that the box office totals for The Twilight Saga: New Moon are actuallyhigher than what was initially predicted. The weekend total for the film rounded out at a whopping $142.8M, putting it in the third spot for highest weekend box office total (behindThe Dark Knight and Spiderman 3). It’s official.

Over the weekend Gossip Cop reported box office estimates, but now the numbers are final. Sources at Summit Entertainment tell us “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed an astonishing $142.8 million over its first three days, for a $35,497 average on 4,024 screens.

Despite the tremendous numbers, a spokesman for Summit says there’s “no announcement planned” for a potential “Breaking Dawn” production.
