MTV: 5 Questions About the Eclipse Trailer Answered
MTV answers some questions you may have had after watching the new Eclipse trailer.
What’s Up With Kristen’s Hair?
The first thing you might be wondering is why Kristen Stewart’s hair looks a bit strange. The reason is that after finishing work on “New Moon” in May, Stewart chopped off her locks for her role as ’70s rocker Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” Shooting on that biopic wrapped last August, just weeks before the start of “Eclipse.” To maintain continuity with Bella Swan’s appearance in “New Moon,” Stewart was forced to don the wig you see her wearing in the “Eclipse” trailer. Some might say the do looks oddly similar to the wig Taylor Lautner had to wear in “Twilight.”What Happened To Victoria?
Just over a minute into the trailer, we get a glimpse of the film’s central villain: Victoria. But that’s not the Victoria we know from “Twilight” and “New Moon.” That’s because last July, only weeks before “Eclipse” was due to begin filming, Bryce Dallas Howard replaced Rachelle Lefevre in the role she’d played for two movies. “I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for ‘Eclipse,’ ” the actress said in a statement.“It was actually a really unfortunate circumstance where the actress who everyone really cared deeply about, who has done an amazing job in this role, was unavailable,” Howard told MTV News late last year. “They were looking for someone to fill that slot. It was right before production actually happened, so of course there was intimidation there and feeling a huge responsibility to do my best.”
How Is A Human Turned Into A Vampire In The “Twilight” Universe?
A key driving point in “Eclipse” is the question of whether Pattinson’s Edward will turn Bella into a vampire. “Why are you so against me becoming like you?” she asks at one point in the trailer.Edward’s answer is that he knows the consequences of becoming a vampire, in that immortal bloodsuckers do not age, while all their loved ones eventually die. Also, there’s the matter of how a human is transformed from a human into a vampire. The answer is that it’s unbearably painful. The process begins when a vampire pierces a human’s skin and releases venom from his glands into the human’s bloodstream. For days on end, the venom courses slowly through the human’s veins, burning ferociously as it travels and eventually causing the heart to stop pumping. It would be no easy task for Edward to inflict such pain, nor would it be easy for Bella to willingly invite it.
Why Is Everyone So Scared Of Victoria?
Why, because of her army of newborn vampires, of course. See, freshly converted vamps pose a potent threat, as they’re often uncontrollably vicious killers. Victoria has been going around Seattle slaughtering humans and building a legion of newborns. Victoria on her own is a danger that Edward and his crew could likely face. But Victoria and an army of out-of-control vampires? That’s serious cause for concern. What, No Werewolves?!
The first “New Moon” trailer blew fans away with its first glimpse at the transformation of Lautner’s Jacob Black from human to werewolf. But if you were hoping to catch some more shape-shifting action in the “Eclipse” trailer, you’ll be disappointed.Yet have no fear! “Eclipse” is set to feature a slew of wolf battles. You don’t think Jacob and his crew are going to walk away from a fight with Victoria’s newborn army, do you? And besides, it’s hard to complain about a lack of a hirsute Jacob when the trailer delivers what you really want: the dude flashing those famous abs.
MTV:5 Secrets of New Moon
March 7, 2010 by Sara
Filed under Featured, Interviews, News, Videos
In honor of the New Moon DVD release on March 20, director Chris Weitz sat down with MTV News to reveal five things you probably didn’t know about “New Moon.” Check it out!
Going for the Gold: In “Twilight,” RPattz and the rest of his vegetarian vampire cohorts have gold-colored eyes as a result of abstaining from consuming human blood. For “New Moon,” the vamps’ eyes were clearly more golden. Why’d Weitz have his actors switch to brighter contact lenses?
“It’s a more noticeable gold,” Weitz said. “I thought that in the first film they hadn’t popped quite enough and I wanted to have that sense of otherworldliness carry through more.”
The Silent Vampire: Actress Rachelle Lefevre was notoriously replaced in her role as the vampire Victoria following “New Moon,” with Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the part for “Eclipse.” In “New Moon,” Lefevre is seen but does not speak. Is there a connection between her lack of lines and what happened with the casting decision?
“It wasn’t so much that,” Weitz said. “There was a dialogue scene with her, and eventually that will show up whenever they release deleted scenes. It was one of those scenes that, when you look back at it, it’s kind of a surplus to the whole storytelling requirement of the movie. So there was no ill intent there. I wrote Rachelle and explained why that scene didn’t end up in the film, and in terms of filmmaking I can’t regret it, although I do regret it very much if it hurt Rachelle’s feelings.”
Why So Torn Up, Edward?: At one point in the film, Pattinson’s Edward Cullen appears in a ripped T-shirt, but we never learn why. So … what the heck happened?
“What it’s supposed to be is that he’s essentially been wearing the same clothes for several months, and that eventually they’ve just worn out because, as you I’m sure know, his body is like stone. So he must’ve rubbed up against something and it ripped,” Weitz said.
Our Lord?: In its Italian-set portions, “New Moon” features a significant amount of religious iconography, and Edward certainly suffers a great deal. Is he supposed to be a Christ figure?
“I think that he is in a sense he’s doomed to suffer eternally,” Weitz said. “He actually thinks of himself as a damned figure, but he’s wrong about that. So in some senses, yeah, he is a martyr figure.”
Black Eyes: In Stephenie Meyer’s book, Edward’s eyes go black in Italy. Why don’t his eyes turn in the film?
“It’s because I screwed up!” Weitz admitted.
Really? He just forgot?
“Well, yeah, I kinda did,” he said. “Well, there are two reasons. One is that I messed up. The other reason is that I actually thought that onscreen it would be quite bizarre to see his eyes go completely black, and that it would be more satisfying and less jarring to have that moment of reunion be a reunion with revivified Edward. But probably, the long and the short of it, there are many details that I did not drop the ball on, and there are some that I did.”
MTV: Rob Says Kristen’s 2 Upcoming Films are Really Good
MTV asked Rob on the Remember Me red carpet if he has had the chance to see either of Kristen’s upcoming films, The Runaways and Welcome to the Rileys.
If you were at all worried, though, know that Pattinson has been reciprocating that support and praise for Kristen’s new films. “I saw a really early cut of ‘The Runaways,’ ” he told MTV News on Monday. “It was really good. And ‘Welcome to the Rileys’ is really good too. But I saw both things at really early cuts, so I don’t know really what they’re like now. But ‘Welcome to the Rileys’ is amazing.’ “
Both “Runaways” and “Rileys” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January to wide acclaim. Assessing Stewart’s turn as a teen prostitute in “Rileys,” an MTV review declared, “[Y]ou cannot walk away from a viewing and say the actress doesn’t fearlessly expose herself physically and emotionally, and doesn’t do so with astonishing maturity and believability.”
“Runways,” meanwhile, in which Stewart plays real-life rocker Joan Jett, arrives in theaters in March. We’ll have to see if Pattinson shows up at the film’s premiere in the same way that Stewart did at “Remember Me.”
“He’s really good in the movie,” she told us. “It’s hard to talk about your friends — about anybody that’s close to you that you know. It’s like, he’s everything I know he is. I know he can do any film.”

Taylor Lautner Drops Out of ‘Max Steele’
So it seems that Taylor Lautner has backed out of playing Max Steel now that he has taken the role of Stretch Armstrong. Here is what MTV has to say:
After dropping out of “Northern Lights” earlier this week, the 18-year-old has parted ways with another project, “Max Steel,” based on the Mattel toy, reports New York magazine’s Vulture blog.Sources say it was his “Stretch Armstrong” collaboration with rival toy company Hasbro that was the impetus for Taylor’s departure. According to Vulture, Taylor realized Hasbro was doing a better job with its movie properties than Mattel. To wit, the toy company has leveraged board games Candy Land, Battleship and Risk into high-profile projects and had earlier success with a couple small flicks called “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers.” Added one source, “When you sign up to make a movie with Hasbro, you know it will be in theaters a year later.”
Less of Taylor Lautner is never a good thing, but we can’t say we’re too sad to see “Max Steel” go. While the toy is wildly popular internationally, it doesn’t seem to have much name recognition here in the U.S. Though we will mourn those could-have-been shirtless scenes. Sigh.
So to recap, Taylor’s current project list is comprised of “Cancun,” “Abduction” and “Stretch Armstrong.” And “Breaking Dawn” if Summit ever gets around to it. Still a lot for the rising actor, but a more manageable list, for sure.

New ‘Remember Me’ Stills
Two new still images from Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me have just been released by MTV.
MTV Review of ‘Welcome to the Rileys”
MTV has a review of Kristen Stewart’s film Welcome to the Rileys, which premiered yesterday at Sundance Film Festival.
Kristen Stewart is utterly fearless in “Welcome to the Rileys.” That’s the takeaway from the film’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday afternoon. You can quibble all you want with her portrayal of a 16-year-old runaway turned stripper and prostitute. But you cannot walk away from a viewing and say the actress doesn’t fearlessly expose herself physically and emotionally, and doesn’t do so with astonishing maturity and believability.
The film, no doubt, has its share of flaws, from intermittent pacing issues to frequent disruptive arguments that seem to arise from storytelling requirements rather than the relationships and developments between characters. But the script thankfully avoids the clichés and storybook ending to which lesser films might have given in.
In ‘Rileys,’ Twilighters will find nothing so much to be shocked by, rather than the fulfillment of a promise Stewart has been hinting at since 2002’s “Panic Room”: the woman is a fine, fine actress.

Kristen Stewart – Sundance and ‘Welcome to the Rileys’
January 24, 2010 by Sara
E! Online’s got a chance to sit down with Kristen Stewart at Sundance Film Festival. They talked to her about her break from filming and how she handled her role in Welcome to the Rileys.
Everyone is raving about your performance—how did you prepare for this particular, shall we say, slightly more risqué role?
“Umm, Jake [Scott, the director] had a lot to do with my preparation and understanding of the type of person I was playing, and his serious regard of sensitivity towards those people. I play a girl who has sort of been stripped of any choice and really stripped of any normal upbringing. Like she couldn’t establish who she was because of things that have happened to her and she became a ‘working girl,’ if you want to call it that.
“So in preparing for the role I talked to a lot of people, actually like three people in New Orleans, that were strippers that were working in this bar that we ended up using in the movie…I don’t really prepare for anything, it’s just about like, keeping it in your mind the whole time. If it affects you…it’s just about understanding it more, it’s not about having to like physically—oh, but I did have to do pole dancing lessons! But you don’t really see that in the movies.”

Most Anticipated Twilight Cast Films of 2010
A new MTV article discusses the ten most anticipated films of 2010 that will star the Twilight cast! Here is the list of films they discuss, along with their current release dates. Be sure to click through to see them all!
“The Runaways” (March 19)
What more can we write about this eagerly anticipated biopic covering the ’70s rockers who broke boundaries, hearts and more than a few pieces of their own equipment? Kristen Stewart rocks out alongside Dakota Fanning, Scout Taylor-Compton and Alia Shawkat, and if the trailer we premiered last month is any indication, this film could prove to the haters that KStew is a lot more than just Bella Swan. Kristen as Joan Jett? Put another dime in the jukebox, baby.
“Remember Me” (March 12)
All of Hollywood is asking one simple question these days: Can Rob Pattinson open a non-”Twilight” movie? We’ll find out soon enough, as he stars alongside Emilie de Ravin in this romantic drama that similarly involves family, tragedy and issues of eternal love — but minus the bloodsucking.“Warrior” (TBD)
Kellan Lutz finally lands his first starring role in this indie film about a lacrosse player who reacts to his father’s death by rebelling against anything he can find — until his dad’s old Marine buddy becomes determined to straighten him out. Besides the fact that it gives “Twilight” fans a double dose of their favorite stars, there’s something oddly fascinating about the fact that Ashley Greene plays Kellan’s girlfriend.“Welcome to the Rileys” (TBD)
James Gandolfini is Doug, a man whose life is in shambles since his daughter was killed eight years ago. Kristen Stewart is Mallory, a 16-year-old stripper who offers him sex — but all he wants is someone to be with while he gets his head together. As Doug’s wife also comes into the equation, the couple find themselves acting as surrogate parents for the wayward teen. All reports are that it’s KStew’s most adult role yet — and we’ll learn plenty more soon enough as the Sundance reports roll in.“Girlfriend” (TBD)
Like so many of his franchise co-stars, Jackson Rathbone will aim to bust out as a leading man in 2010. This intense indie film has Jacksper playing a man caught up in an unorthodox love triangle involving a man with Down syndrome. Jackson is providing the soundtrack through his band 100 Monkeys, and if their music is any indication this will be a film that isn’t afraid to take some risks.“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” (TBD)
Even if “Twilight” star Anna Kendrick weren’t in this, it would still be one of our most anticipated films of the year. Based on the beloved Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novels, the movie focuses on a 23-year-old slacker (Michael Cera) who falls in love with a girl (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but has to battle her seven evil ex-boyfriends if he wants to get a chance with her. Kendrick has said the film is “really fun” and that she spends the whole movie screaming at Michael Cera on the phone — sounds good enough for us!“Eclipse” (June 30)
It’s the big kahuna, the top dog, the whole enchilada. And so far, virtually nothing has been released that gives us any indication of what David Slade’s “Twilight” movie will be like. Who are we kidding? We’re there anyway.“Valentine’s Day” (February 12)
OK, so half of Hollywood is in this movie. But the two that “Twilight” fans will care about most are Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner — in his first post-”Saga” acting appearance. It promises to be this year’s “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and all indications are that the Taylors have a small amount of screen time. But they spend it making out — so how can you not be curious?“The Last Airbender” (July 2)
Now we all understand why they dropped “Avatar” from the title. But although this M. Night Shyamalan-directed adaptation of the popular kids’ franchise might not make a billion dollars, it still seems likely to be the biggest non-”Twilight” blockbuster that any of the franchise’s alumni will be involved with this year. Jackson Rathbone stars as Sokka, a warrior who wields swords and martial arts as powerfully as Jasper Hale does that creepy stare.“Skateland” (TBD)
Over the last few years, it’s been fascinating to watch all the “Twilight” stars navigate their own unique paths from obscurity to ubiquity. Miss Ashley Greene has used her fashion sense and well-spoken demeanor to make the most out of her minimal screen time as Alice Cullen — and now she may be ready to take the next step with this ’80s drama about a small-town Texas skating rink. Lucky Twilighters venturing to Sundance will be able to catch a sneak peek of the flick, which should prove that Ashley is ready to take off the training wheels.

Emilie deRavin Talks With MTV About Remember Me
January 20, 2010 by Sara
Emilie de Ravin talked with MTV about the upcoming flick Remember Me and her chemistry with Robert Pattinson.
MTV: So how did “Remember Me” come your way? Did you have to read with Rob?
De Ravin: They’d been looking to cast my role for a while, looking at a lot of different girls. I read the script three weeks before they started shooting. I flew to New York to test with Rob and we immediately got along and had instant great chemistry, which is not an easy thing to come by. Obviously you’re acting, but you want to have that connection with somebody. We had it. And I was thrown into a wardrobe fitting that same day.
MTV: Before you were cast, did you have a sense of all the craziness that surrounds Rob everywhere he goes?
De Ravin: I suppose I did, but it was not something I thought about until I got to set that first day and was like, “Ooooh, OK.” Probably 90 percent of the film we shot on location, mainly in Manhattan, and having the paparazzi and fans coming to watch, it adds, um, another element. You have to focus much more.
MTV: Was it just nuts?
De Ravin: There were a lot of crazy moments where you’re filming on location and you’re waiting for people to get out of the shot. People don’t want to move. Rob and I would laugh about that. There was a scene where we’re on a date at a carnival, and it was very exposed to media, paparazzi and fans. We were rehearsing, and you become so self-conscious of people watching you, and we both stopped and looked at each other and were like, “Wait, what are we doing?” You’re taken out of your work mentality with hundreds of people watching you when you’re just trying to figure out your scene.
MTV: What was your relationship with Rob like off-camera?
De Ravin: It was so great being able to work with someone you immediately get along with and is incredibly talented and is driven to make the film as good as we can. Having someone you can go and talk with about a scene, and it’s all very casual and easy, that made filming such a delight — having a friendship level and a commitment to the script. The way Rob and I developed our relationship onscreen was very natural, and just seeing what happened with scenes, what happens in the moment.
MTV: But you’re telling me you guys didn’t watch “Twilight” together in your trailer every day?
De Ravin: No! I hadn’t seen the films prior to shooting. They’re great. They’re such a different genre to this film. “Twilight” and “Remember Me” couldn’t be more different. Not so many similarities between Edward Cullen and Tyler.

Clip From Kristen Stewart’s ‘The Yellow Handkerchief’
MTV.com has exclusive video and stills from Kristen Stewart’s movie The Yellow Handkerchief -
Though the movie follows two love stories, this clip focuses on that between Martine (Kristen) and Gordy, played by Eddie Redmayne. In it, Gordy shows Martine his science project, though both she (and us) aren’t quite sure how the book pertains to science. After some flirting, one thing leads to another, and we’ll let you watch the clip (after the jump!) to see where things go from there.
From what we can gather in the scene, Kristen’s Martine falls somewhere closer to her role of Tracy in “Into the Wild” than Bella in “The Twilight Saga” with a free-spirit attitude and penchant for love. Fortunately, as can be seen in both of the above stills, Kristen is wearing a headband through much of the film, which should cut down on her tendency to run her hands through her hair.
MTV Interview With Bryce Dallas Howard on Potraying Victoria
MTV’s Larry Carroll has a new interview with Bryce Dallas Howard. In the interview they discuss the character Victoria, and how Bryce aimed to stay true to Rachelle LeFevre’s vision of Victoria -
MTV: It’s no secret that you entered the franchise under less-than-ideal circumstances. What kinds of things did the other actors say and do in those early days?
Bryce Dallas Howard: What’s so great about that group of people is that they feel so genuinely blessed by this experience. Just by the response of the fans. But they’ve remained so grounded, and their friendships are genuine. I just felt really, really fortunate to get to meet all these wonderful people.
MTV: Tell us about your take on Victoria, as opposed to Rachelle’s. What will be different? What will stay the same?
Howard: Victoria is a wonderful character. … It’s awfully juicy to play a villain. To play someone that’s just evil; Victoria is evil. And I think with “Eclipse,” it ends with quite a huge battle, a big spectacle, and it’s very scary. It’s a very, very scary book and very terrifying set of circumstances, and I think the Cullens are in jeopardy in a way that they never really have been before. It was a really, really exciting world to be a part of, because it was so scary and the stakes were so high.
MTV: Would you say you studied Rachelle’s performance, to factor it into your own?
Howard: Well, I have seen “Twilight” innumerable times, innumerable. And yes, of course, I saw “New Moon” before doing “Eclipse,” because the continuity of the character is critical, and Rachelle had done a really exquisite job creating Victoria. It was really important to base all of my work on that. She set a very high bar, and I wanted to reach for that.
MTV: In your mind, what were the critical elements of Victoria that needed to be maintained from the book to the script to Rachelle to yourself?
Howard: Well, the visual continuity of the character Victoria is really important, because such a distinctive character had been created, one that the fans and audience really connected to. She’s described perfectly in the book. And that’s really important to everybody, that there’s an authenticity to bringing these characters to life that’s not really an interpretation, just a true representation of what’s been written on the page.

Robert Pattinson – MTV News #6 Man of The Year
Robert Pattinson is named MTV News’ #6 Man of the Year!
In 2009, all eyes were on RPattz. Despite only releasing one movie, there were few people whose face sold more magazines, whose every word made more of a ripple and whose public appearances caused such a stir. Under such pressure, a lot of 23-year-old actors would end up getting into trouble, indulging to the point of excess and disappointing their fans. But somehow, the uniquely suited-for-stardom Robert Pattinson took it all with a good-natured grin and self-deprecating charm. In “Twilight” and beyond, his future seems so bright that he’ll likely be sparkling for quite some time.

Ashley Greene on Cover of Teen Prom
Here is a photo of Ashley Greene’s TeenPROM cover. MTV’s Hollycrush has more info on Ashley’s cover story and being the spokesperson for DonateMyDress.org.
The “New Moon” star is gracing the cover of the magazine in an elegant purple dress with a bow and embroidery in the front, for a feature story spotlighting her role as spokesperson for DonateMyDress.org, a charity which distributes used prom dresses to underprivileged teens. In the issue, Ashley shares her prom story and dishes out some good advice for the big night. Of course, she also manages to sneak in a few “Twilight” bits.
The actress, who is no doubt busy prepping to reprise her role as Alice Cullen in “Eclipse,” the next installment in the “Twilight” series, got involved with DonateMyDress.org because of her own experience trying to save up for prom.
“I bought my dress and I pretty much paid for everything because my parents really didn’t have the money to pay for something like that. I worked for it, so I think it meant that much more to me because I had to save up,” she tells Prom2010.

MTV Talks With Bryce Dallas Howard
December 11, 2009 by Sara

Bryce Dallas Howard sat down with MTV to talk about joining the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
“It was actually a really unfortunate circumstance where the actress who everyone really cared deeply about, who has done an amazing job in this role, was unavailable,” Howard said, explaining her last-minute casting. “They were looking for someone to fill that slot. It was right before production actually happened, so of course there was intimidation there and feeling a huge responsibility to do my best.”
“They love these books — all these actors,” Howard continued. “They’re fans themselves. It was a great energy on set — that people are so passionate about bringing these characters to life.”
In the ensuing days, both Lefevre and Summit Entertainment released separate statements detailing their sides of the story. But despite the drama behind the scenes, Howard insists the cast was nothing but welcoming.
“[They] were really lovely,” Howard said. “And yes, it’s an incredible group of people. I have so much respect for them. There’s so much frenzy surrounding them, and they’ve remained grounded, and their friendships are so genuine. I felt very lucky to work with such a good group of people.
