Vanity Fair Reviews ‘The Runaways’
Vanity Fair writer Andi Teran gives us her thoughts on Kristen Stewart’s and Dakota Fanning’s upcoming Joan Jett biopic The Runaways.
At last night’s midtown Manhattan press screening of the highly anticipated biopic The Runaways, a diminutive figure in a black hoodie slunk into the front row minutes before the lights dimmed. I could just make out a pair of Kohl-rimmed eyes and an inky fringe, but it was the unmistakable slouch that made me wonder: “Is that Kristen Stewart?” I was half-right. It was Joan Jett, the pioneering hard rocker portrayed in the film by Stewart.
The Runaways tells the story of its namesake band—the all-girl teen band that launched Jett’s career in the 1970s. It tells the age-old tale of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll, but with the twist that it’s all from a young woman’s perspective. Directed by photographer and music-video director Floria Sigismondi, the movie stars two of the most sought-after young actresses working today: Dakota Fanning, who plays the drug-addled lead singer, Cherie Currie; and Stewart, the face of the Twilight film franchise (which also, coincidentally, features Fanning). Both actresses are roughly the age their fictional counterparts were at the height of their fame, and both seem eager to leave behind their doe-eyed images (and fan bases) and venture into more mature artistic territory. Judging from this effort, they may well succeed.

Anna And Kristen in Vanity Fair
Here is the full cover for Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue, featuring Kristen Stewart and Anna Kendrick.
Here is the behind-the-scenes video:
Anna Kendrick in Vanity Fair’s 2010 Upcoming Actors
Anna Kendrick is featured in the January issue of Vanity Fair as one of the upcoming “openers”.
January 2010: Anna Kendrick
Age: 24. Provenance: Portland, Maine. It’s a vampire world and we’re just dying in it: Kendrick made her name in the original Twilight movie—“I had no idea; none of us knew”—as mere mortal Jessica Stanley, “Bella’s friend from school.” She reprises the role in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, in theaters now. And for the adults in the audience … Kendrick shines as George Clooney’s tightly wound underling in Jason Reitman’s well-timed dramedy about corporate cost-cutting, Up in the Air, which is already generating Oscar buzz. “I was shooting them both at the same time,” says Kendrick. “It was great because my character in Up in the Air is so rigid, and it was fun to go to Vancouver [to the set of New Moon] and play the silliest girl on the planet!”

Robert Pattinson in Italian Vanity Fair
The Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson decided to clarify a few things with Italian Vanity Fair.
“I am single… almost everything that came out about my private life is false.”
“I think it happens because, really, there is not much to say about what I’m doing,” Pattinson said. “While I am filming, I live practically [like a] recluse in [a] hotel. I come out only to work , and sometimes to go out for dinner. But, if you read the magazines, it seems that I have a frantic high life.”

Vanity Fair Interview With New Moon Stars
November 20, 2009 by Sara
This is by far my favorite set of interviews. The questions asked and the answers given were all things I was interested to hear about. AND not one group of the main cast was left out. There are interviews with the Cullens, the Volturi, the Wolfpack, Chris Weitz, Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson.

Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser both talked with Vanity Fair.
Elizabeth:
What did you do to prepare for Esme? How do you still work to develop her character?
When you have the material [of the books] there’s so much already on the page from Stephenie’s imagination. Most of it came from that; she’s got so much back-story. There’s so much on the Internet actually, which I found really interesting because they [the Twilight bloggers] write about your character, they write about all of our characters. I found it really fascinating—their take on it. Even on You Tube, they’ll have some kind of report on Esme or Carlisle and their relationship and it’s just been really interesting.
Nikki:
What was it like working with Chris Weitz on New Moon and David Slade onEclipse?
It’s challenging because all of the directors have a different perspective and a different approach. It was great working with David because he really took the time to sit down with me and go over every moment. Chris is an amazing man, but unfortunately we didn’t have that much to do together as the Cullens are only in a few scenes in New Moon. David is quite a character and tons of fun to work with. Both men had a very strong vision, which is essential.

Twilight’s Hot Gleaming
Not since Titanic unleashed Leo-mania has an actor sparked the overnight adulation that greeted Robert Pattinson’s 2008 debut as Edward Cullen in Twilight. As the vampire saga’s next installment arrives, the author explores the frenzy, isolation, and sheer embarrassment of Pattinson’s past year, his instant connection with co-star Kristen Stewart, and the life he wants when this $10 million gig is over. Peter Facinelli Talks With Vanity Fair

Peter Facinelli chatted with Vanity Fair about working on the Twilight Saga movies. Check it out -
As the patriarch of the Cullen clan, have you assumed a similar fatherly role with the cast?
You know, on Twilight I feel like they looked to me as the father figure, but because we became so close, I’m more of an older brother now.
Has there been a difference in the way you interact as a cast since you filmed Twilight?
Rob[ert Pattinson] has more security guards hanging around him! [Laughs] Other than that, not really. We really enjoy each other’s company, and we’ve been working so much on this movie that we really haven’t had as much time to hang out with each other. We’re putting in these long hours and then just heading home. Usually we just try to catch dinner with each other then get back up the next morning and do it all over again.
What would you say is the one major thing that has changed about your life since starting the franchise?
I’m traveling a lot more than I used to and interacting with a lot more people. The fan base on this, I don’t know how else to explain it … it’s a cultural phenomenon. People will actually hop on a plane to see you. Sometimes I do these charity events, and people fly in to come and see me. I’m just really, really impressed with [the fan] dedication to these books and to the movies. I’ve always had a fan base with the work I’ve done, but never as rabid as this.

Alex Meraz and Kiowa Gordon in Vanity Fair

In Vanity Fair, Alex Meraz (Paul) and Kiowa Gordon (Embry) chat about New Moon and Eclipse!
Highlights from Alex Meraz.
Did you receive any guidance from any of the other actors on set?
At that point, you’ve got yourself a job. There’s nothing that anyone else is really going to teach you. I didn’t have anyone holding my hand when I did the audition. What I did to get the job is what I had to do on film. In terms of everything else that was coming with that, with the fame and all of that stuff, [director] Chris Weitz and Kristen [Stewart] had the best advice to give me.
What was it like filming the third installment, Eclipse? It was no pressure. The pressure was doing the job on the first one, trying to understand the character. On this one, I felt a little bit more comfortable with what I was doing. I already knew the cast, so it was a lot easier.
Has much changed since you’ve started filming the Twilight movies?
Well, I’ve got a lot more family members now! [Laughs] I don’t know, people say after the movie opens things are really going to change. I’m getting a lot of meetings with really great directors and producers—people I really admire. It’s a really good gig to have. The fans are amazing. They’re really the ones that are changing everything for each actor.
Highlights from Kiowa Gordon.
Did anyone on set take you under their wing or give you any good advice?
Just the Wolf Pack. We all helped each other along and gave each other advice.
Has anyone tried to prepare for what’s coming once the film is out?
They’re trying! They keep telling me that it’s going to be a lot crazier than what I’ve seen. They keep telling me that I can’t go outside of my house. I just think it’s nonsense.
Are people recognizing you already in Arizona?
Sometimes, yeah. They just look away and start laughing and whispering to their friends, but I know what they talk about because I can overhear.
Have you seen the finished film yet?
No. I saw the rough cut with Stephenie a couple of months ago. It was really good. I’m sure it’ll be 100 times better when it comes out.

Vanity Fair Talks to Bands From the New Moon Soundtrack
October 8, 2009 by Sara
Vanity Fair talked to a few of the bands that will be appearing on the New Moon Soundtrack, including Sea Wolf, St. Vincent and OK Go. Here is the scoop!
The song that Sea Wolf is contributing to the soundtrack is called “The Violet Hour.”
Alex Brown Church of Sea Wolf on “The Violet Hour”
Do you know what scene it will be featured in?
All I know is it’s going to be in a party scene … a house-party scene.
Can you give us some sample lyrics?
Sure.
Your arms are lovely
Yellow and rose
Your back’s a meadow
Covered in snow
Your thighs are thistles
And hothouse grapes
You breathe your sweet breath
And have me waitWow, steamy stuff. What do you hope Twilight fans will take from it?
I hope that it speaks to them in a personal way. I put a lot of myself into my songs, but I don’t want to alienate anyone. It’s a good song. I hope people [who buy the soundtrack] will like it and will hopefully seek us out and check out our other records.
How did you feel when you heard you were going to be on the soundtrack?
That it’s a great honor to be included on the soundtrack with the likes of Thom Yorke, Grizzly Bear, and Death Cab for Cutie. It’s really cool.
St. Vincent discusses her song with Bon Iver, “Roslyn.”
Do you know what scene they’re using it for?
I don’t know where the song will be in the film, but I know that Edward and Bella will not have sex to it.
Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
I’m not really hip on the whole live-forever thing. That seems like kind of a drag! I’m really happy with life, but the thought of living forever is not my bag. Do werewolves live forever? Because if werewolves don’t live forever, than I think I’d rather be a werewolf. I saw Teen Wolf [Two] as a kid … I’m Team Jason Bateman!
And Tim Nordwind of OK Go talks about “Shooting the Moon.”
Can you give us a sample of some of the song lyrics?
What can he tell ‘em now
Sorry I let you down
Sorry I wasn’t quite true
But don’t get hung up on it
Just soldier on with it
And good luck shooting the moonSounds very apropos. Do you know what scene it’s featured in?
Yes, I do. It’s a montage scene. The song itself is a thoughtful, acoustic song, and the scene they’re using it for is a moment when you see the two kids flirting with each other for the first time.
You mean Bella and Jacob?
Right, yeah.
Have you seen the film?
I did see that scene and some others, but I haven’t seen the completed film. I’m really looking forward to it.
Stephenie Meyer – Vanity Fair Top 100 Powers List
Stephenie Meyer has made Vanity Fair’s Top 100 Information Age Powers List coming in at number 82. Here is what they said about her.
82. Stephenie Meyer
Author
NEW ENTRY.
STAGE OF GLOBAL CONQUEST: The Mormon housewife’s Twilight teen-vampire romance novels sold nearly 29 million copies in one year, capturing the top four positions on the USA Today best-seller list for 2008, making her the first author ever to do so. (J. K. Rowling came close with Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 with her Harry Potter titles in 2000.) The movie version of Twilight grossed $191 million in the U.S., and the film adaptation of her second book, New Moon, opens in November. Meyer has also inspired hundreds of Web sites from fans who call themselves “Stephen-ites” or “Twi-hards.”
MARITAL RELATIONS: Her husband, Christian, quit his job as an auditor to look after their three sons.
DAILY HABITS: Drives fast but doesn’t consume alcohol or caffeine.
LEGEND HAS IT: Meyer, 35, began writing as a 29-year-old Phoenix housewife in 2003 after dreaming of vampires one night. She wrote 10 pages the next morning before driving her sons to swimming lessons. She moved a desk into the living room and finished her 130,000-word first novel in only three months.
THORN IN HER SIDE: Stephen King, who said that “Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn.”
NEW THORN IN HER SIDE: Jordan Scott, who has alleged in a lawsuit filed in August that Meyer stole ideas from her 2006 vampire novel The Nocturne, and used them in Breaking Dawn, which Meyer published in 2008. Meyer’s publisher has said that the claims are meritless.

Robert Pattinson To Be On Cover of Vanity Fair
Mark Malkin over at E! has unearthed the following information:
“Robert Pattinson has another magazine cover coming up—and thankfully, it’s not some far-fetched tabloid bullcrap this time around.
Mr. Pattinson, I’m told, has landed himself on the cover of probably the most coveted of monthlies—Vanity Fair!”
Check out Mark’s full story on E!.
E! Also has the details on the Teen choice awards where Taylor Lautner and Ashley Greene are confirmed as presenters and Robert Pattinson is also going to be there (unless there are filming conflicts).
“Twilight may have been ignored at the Oscars, Golden Globes and the like, but the vampire movie is scoring where it really counts—with the kids!
The Robert Pattinson romance earned an even dozen 2009 Teen Choice Award nominations, including Choice Movie: Drama and Choice Movie: Romance.”
