In this video, Xavier Samuel talks to Moving Pictures about his film The Loved Ones, as well as about Eclipse, done during the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
Xavier Samuel Talks ‘Eclipse’
In a new interview, Xavier Samuel discusses David Slade amd Eclipse.
Samuel won’t have to worry about reaching a large audience with his most recent film, Eclipse.
The Twilight Saga is one of the most popular and successful film series of all time.
Samuel plays Riley, a newborn vampire on a mission to kill Bella (Kristen Stewart).
“It’s a really action-packed film and I had a really great time running around on wires and learning how to fight like a vampire – however that is,” he laughed.
“Whenever we weren’t shooting we were in stunt training or in the gym running around. It was pretty intensive actually.”
Samuel said the third film would have a darker look, thanks to new director David Slade.
“It seems like David has approached it very differently to the previous directors – I think he’s really embracing the darker side of it, which is really cool,” he said.
“He’s uber intelligent, very technically astute director.”
Since shooting Eclipse, Samuel said he’s been receiving more new scripts than ever but hasn’t signed on to anything else yet.
For now he is content to spend a bit of down time in Sydney and fulfil his judging duties for the Optus 180 Project.

Xavier Samuel – Home For Christmas
Adelaide Now interviewed local boy made good, Xavier Samuel, before Xavier popped home for Christmas.
“DRESSED in jeans and scuffed boots and climbing out of a beaten-up Ford Falcon, Xavier Samuel looked like any other young bloke when he turned up for his city hair appointment on Thursday.
That was only because the hordes of teenage girls who have been following his every move on the internet for the past few months were nowhere to be seen – they didn’t even know he was in town.
International paparazzi have hounded the former Adelaide drama student since he landed a role in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, which completed filming in Canada two months ago.
Due to be released next June, the film, which also stars Twilight leads Kristen Stewart and heart-throb Robert Pattinson, is set to make Samuel, 25, a major Hollywood star.
This week he was enjoying some downtime in his home town, where he caught up with mates at Rundle St spots The Exeter and Sugar nightclub, before spending Christmas relaxing with his mum Maree and dad Clifford, brother Benedict, 21, and sister Bridget, 28. “

TwiCast @ The Toronto Film Festival
Twilight Lexicon has a cool new article about the various Twilight Saga castmembers who have projects being featured at the Toronto Film Festival. Check it out -
The Toronto Film Festival opens today. The festival is the early buzzmaker for films with Oscar potential. Slumdog Millionaire walked away with the best film prize last year. This year who knows? In any case a number of Twilight actors have films at the festival and are going to be in attendance.
Michael Sheen: Is in The Damned United, and was cited as one of the top ten films to watch at the festival by USA Today. According to USA Today, “This sharply humorous fable of British soccer manager Brian Clough, a real-life specialist at propelling underdog teams to unexpected glory in the ’60s and ’70s, is not just another inspirational sports saga. It’s a cautionary folly of Shakespearean proportions as Clough (Michael Sheen of Frost/Nixon, oozing puddles of pride and over-confidence) takes over onetime rival Leeds and infamously runs the club into the ground in just 44 days. Timothy Spall works his charms as Clough’s less volatile coaching sidekick, while Jim Broadbent and Colm Meaney make blustery foils for the slick-haired Sheen.”
Xavier Samuel:Larry from ProNetworks first broke the story that Xavier wold be at the festival in the film The Loved ones. Larry writes, “So I’m especially thrilled to pass on the news that the Toronto Film Festival has confirmed that Xavier will be attending and I’ll be there to report on the festivities for the International premiere of The Loved Ones. Lovers of genre films generally attend every screening in the Midnight Madness section so this one is sure to sell out quickly. In this debut feature from Aussie director Sean Byrne, a troubled teen’s prom dreams are shattered by a series of painful events that take place under the mirrored disco ball, involving syringes, nails, power drills, and a secret admirer.”
Anna Kendrick: Anna is appearing with George Clooney (George has three films at the festival) in Up in the Air. We talked a bit about that film yesterday and linked to Slash Film, who got a peak a couple of months back, review. Well, it seems that Slash Films isn’t the only outlet that was impressed. According to Thompson on Hollywood, Anna has potential to walk away with the best supporting actress prize. In a piece of trivia for Twilight fans, Anna is the second youngest person ever nominated for a Tony Award.
Meet The New Males of Eclipse

We have intros to the new male cast members of Eclipse, thanks to MTV.
Actor: Xavier Samuel
Character: RileyThe Lowdown: In the wise words of both Bette Midler and Sigmund the Sea Monster, you’ve gotta have friends. Even Victoria the bloodthirsty vampire knows this, which is why she reacts to the bummer news of Cam Gigandet’s James and Edi Gathegi’s Laurent biting the dust by finding herself a new buddy. But instead of hanging out at the mall or going to a JoBros concert together, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Victoria and Xavier Samuel’s Riley will enjoy scheming against werewolves and planning to take down the Cullen clan. Fans can look forward to Samuel — a 25-year-old actor in his first major film — serving as the leader of Victoria’s newborn army, invading Bella’s room and then having a bloody battle with Edward and Seth Clearwater.
Actor: BooBoo Stewart
Character: Seth ClearwaterThe Lowdown: Aside from having the coolest name of any actor since Rip Torn, the casting of BooBoo Stewart is big news to “Twilight” saga fans for a variety of reasons. One of Jacob’s shape-shifting homeys, Seth is the brother of Leah, and one of the few wolves who consider the vampires to be friends. Although glimpsed in the “New Moon” novel, filmmakers Chris Weitz and David Slade seem to have collectively decided to bump Seth into the third film. Still, he’ll be a fresh face when he finally shows up in the persona of 15-year-old cutie BooBoo — who, much like Taylor Lautner, seems to have an affinity for martial-arts/ dance/ gymnastic routines. Something tells us those two will have plenty of fun between takes.
Actor: Jack Huston
Character: Royce KingThe Lowdown: Much like Catalina Sandino Moreno’s Maria, Huston’s Royce is inextricably linked to the origins of one the Cullens, and not in a manner in which they should be proud. Flashback to early 20th-century New York, where Rosalie Hale was a beautiful teenager with a bright future ahead of her. Falling for Royce King II, Rosalie will suspect that they don’t share the same sort of love as other engaged couples — and will eventually be beaten, presumably raped and left to die. These events — as well as her transformation and salvation at the hands of Carlisle — will go a long way toward explaining why Nikki Reed has spent much of the first few films with such a bad case of the Mondays. Oh, and the scene where vampire Rosalie gets revenge on her would-be killers? Just wait until blood-loving “30 Days of Night” director Slade gets his fingerprints all over that one.

Interview With Xavier Samuel

Adelaide Now has a brief new interview with Eclipse actor Xavier Samuel, who was recently cast to play Riley–
“I was up against some truly great actors who I’m privileged to be considered among,” he said from Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles where he was celebrating last night.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity.”Xavier explains he’d put together his audition tape in Sydney just three weeks ago, and flew to LA last Thursday.
“It all happened in less than a month!” said Xavier, who graduated from the Flinders University Drama Centre in 2005.
Summit Confirms Xavier Samuel as Riley
The Australian radio show Hot30 has the first ever interview with the newly cast Riley in Eclipse, who will be played by Aussie newcomer Xavier Samuel.
The interview with 25-year old Xavier begins at around 7:30 in the audio, where he confirms that he will indeed play Riley. Here’s what else we learn–
- It’s his first American film role
- He made his initial audition tape in Sydney, then flew to Vancouver and LA to meet the crew, and just found out yesterday that he landed the role
- Xavier watched Twilight for the first time during the plane trip to North America
You can listen to a flash version on the Hot30 website.
You can also see more photos of Xavier at JustJaredJr.
Check out the official news release from Summit, which is written by Steven Zeitchik of The Hollywood Reporter.
Google might want to brace for a search onslaught: An unknown Australian actor named Xavier Samuel has landed the first new role in “Eclipse,” the third “Twilight” pic.
Summit has hired the actor to play the role of a “newborn vampire” named Riley, a good-looking college student who joins the plot of villain Victoria to murder protagonist Bella (Kristen Stewart). Riley is corrupted by Victoria, for whom he has an inexplicable weakness.
The movie’s larger plot centers on a choice Bella must make between the werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson).
Samuel, repped by Management 360, Gersh and Shanahan in Australia, has been in series of films down under, including “Newcastle,” in which he played a Goth teenager amidst a group of surfers (the movie played Tribeca last year — though you can bet Netflix will see just a small spike now), the Aussie period drama “September” and the upcoming sci-fi thriller “Road Train.” This marks his first U.S. role.
“Eclipse,” the third book in Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster series, is set
to begin shooting next month in Vancouver and be released on June 30. David Slade (”30 Days of Night”) is directing from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg. The Twilight franchise will become the center of the fan universe at Comic-Con next week when the stars of the second pic — the Chris Weitz-directed “New Moon” — appear, new material is unveiled and the crowd goes wild. The Samuel family is probably about to see a little frenzy itself.
